TLDR Eclipta prostrata extract protects skin cells from UVB damage and has strong antioxidant properties.
The study found that the water extract of Eclipta prostrata L. (WEP) had potent antioxidative and UVB protective effects, primarily due to its high chlorogenic acid content (1.75 mg/g) and total phenolic content (175.45 ± 11.56 mg GAE/g). WEP demonstrated significant radical scavenging activity and protected HaCaT and 3T3 cells from UVB-induced cytotoxicity. These findings suggested that WEP could be used in the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetics industries to protect against oxidative and UV-induced skin damage, although further research was needed to fully understand its protective mechanisms.
