TLDR JAK inhibitors may help improve symptoms in adults with APECED.
This case study discusses a 37-year-old female with APECED, a rare autoimmune disease, who showed significant clinical improvement after 11 months of treatment with the JAK inhibitor ruxolitinib. The patient experienced hair regrowth, resolution of plantar verruca, and partial improvement of onychodystrophy. This case is notable due to the patient's adult age, as APECED is typically reported in adolescents or young adults. The study suggests that JAK inhibitors have potential as targeted immunomodulatory therapies for improving the quality of life in APECED patients by addressing multiple disease manifestations.
