TLDR Ayurveda-based care may improve quality of life for breast cancer patients without serious side effects.
A pilot observational study involving 40 breast cancer patients at IMS-BHU, Varanasi, evaluated the impact of an Ayurveda-based regimen—Guduchi, Ashwagandha, and Curcumin—on quality of life (QoL) and safety. Patients were divided into supportive (n=20) and control (n=20) groups, with the supportive group receiving the Ayurveda regimen alongside conventional therapy. After 8 weeks, the supportive group reported significantly better global health status, physical and emotional functioning, and reduced symptom burden, including less hair loss distress, compared to controls. No serious adverse events were noted, though two patients experienced mild gastric discomfort. The study suggests that Ayurveda-based supportive care may safely enhance QoL in breast cancer patients, warranting further research with larger trials.
