TLDR Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery can effectively manage glaucoma in GAPO syndrome when other treatments fail.
This case report discusses a 36-year-old woman with GAPO syndrome, a rare congenital disorder characterized by growth retardation, alopecia, pseudo-anodontia, and progressive optic atrophy, who developed primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Despite medical therapy, her glaucoma remained uncontrolled, leading to the use of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) with XEN® gelatin micro-stent implantation in both eyes. This procedure, performed at two-week intervals, successfully reduced intraocular pressure to below 18 mmHg without complications over a three-year follow-up period. This is the first reported case of XEN® implantation in a GAPO syndrome patient, highlighting MIGS as a viable option for managing POAG in such cases.
