TLDR Beer yeast vesicles may improve hair follicle health.
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae (beer yeast) show promise for biomedical and cosmetic applications related to hair follicles. This study isolated these EVs and evaluated their effects on human dermal papilla cells, keratinocytes, and dermal fibroblasts, which are crucial for hair follicle health. The yeast-derived EVs enhanced cell proliferation, promoted cell migration, reduced inflammation, and increased collagen-related gene expression, all without cytotoxic effects. Additionally, they exhibited antioxidant activity. These findings suggest that S. cerevisiae EVs could be used as bioactive platforms to support hair follicle health and homeostasis.
