Complementary and Alternative Medicine Use and Quality of Life Among Filipino Adult Psoriasis Vulgaris Patients Seen in a Tertiary Center: A Cross-Sectional Study

    TLDR Many Filipino psoriasis patients use alternative medicine, which may worsen their quality of life.
    The study found that 47% of 135 Filipino adult psoriasis vulgaris patients used complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), with a higher prevalence among females and those with tertiary education. Special diets and herbal medicine were the most common CAM types. CAM use was linked to a negative impact on quality of life, affecting physical symptoms, daily activities, and work. Although patients with poor quality of life were more likely to use CAM, this was not statistically significant. The findings suggested that CAM use might indicate unmet physical and psychosocial needs, highlighting the importance of understanding patient motivations for CAM use to better guide treatment discussions.
