TLDR Carnosic acid from rosemary and sage may be a promising natural treatment for hair loss.
The review discusses the therapeutic potential of carnosic acid, a compound found in rosemary and sage, for treating alopecia. Current treatments like minoxidil and finasteride have limitations, prompting interest in natural alternatives. Carnosic acid shows promise due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-androgenic, neuroprotective, and hair follicle-regenerative properties. However, its poor solubility and stability in conventional formulations pose challenges for clinical use. The review highlights carnosic acid as a potentially effective and safer alternative for alopecia treatment, emphasizing its multifaceted biological activities.
