    The study revealed a non-apoptotic role of caspase-3 in regulating cell proliferation and organ size, particularly in the sebaceous gland, by activating yes-associated protein (YAP). Caspase-3 cleaved α-catenin, facilitating YAP's nuclear translocation, which promoted cell proliferation. Inhibition or deletion of caspase-3 led to reduced sebocyte proliferation and smaller sebaceous glands. The study also identified a feedback loop involving the X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) that antagonized the caspase-3/YAP module. These findings suggested that caspase-3 played a crucial role in YAP-dependent organ size regulation, offering insights into potential therapeutic applications beyond apoptosis.
