β-Catenin Signaling Evokes Hair Follicle Senescence by Accelerating the Differentiation of Hair Follicle Mesenchymal Progenitors

    The study explored the role of β-catenin signaling in hair follicle senescence, particularly its effect on hair follicle dermal stem cells (hfDSCs) and mesenchymal progenitors. It was found that β-catenin activation accelerated the differentiation of these cells, leading to hair follicle aging, characterized by premature graying and thinning. This process resulted in the loss of stem cell potential and contributed to hair loss. The research suggested that targeting β-catenin signaling could be a promising strategy for developing therapies for hair loss and aging-related conditions, highlighting the potential of CD34+ hfDSCs as a molecular target for hair regeneration and alopecia treatment.
