Clinical Presentation and Dermoscopic Features of Alopecia Areata Patients

This study investigated the clinical and dermoscopic profiles of 100 alopecia areata (AA) patients, with an average age of 24.5 years and a male-to-female ratio of 1.2:1. The patchy type of AA was most common, primarily affecting the scalp. Nail pitting was the most frequent nail abnormality, and severe AA was significantly associated with nail changes. Dermoscopic analysis revealed patterns such as black dots, broken hairs, and yellow dots, with yellow dots showing a positive correlation with AA severity. The study concluded that AA predominantly affects younger individuals, with dermoscopy providing valuable insights into diagnosis and severity assessment.
