Clinical Profile and Outcomes of Patients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
August 2025
TLDR Individualized treatment improves symptoms and quality of life for women with PCOS.
This study evaluated 180 women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) in India, revealing significant metabolic and hormonal disruptions. Key findings included a high prevalence of obesity (70%), menstrual irregularities (90%), hirsutism (75%), and insulin resistance (60%). Hormonal imbalances were marked by elevated testosterone and LH levels. Treatment interventions, such as lifestyle modifications, metformin, oral contraceptives, and clomiphene, led to significant improvements in BMI, insulin sensitivity, hyperandrogenic symptoms, ovulation rates, and quality of life. The study emphasizes the importance of individualized, multidisciplinary management strategies to address both metabolic and reproductive aspects of PCOS, particularly in South Asian women.
