Clinical Spectrum of Pediatric Hair and Scalp Disorders at a Tertiary Center in Indonesia

This study analyzed 545 pediatric patients with hair and scalp disorders at a tertiary center in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from 2001 to 2024. The most common conditions were seborrheic dermatitis (25.14%), bacterial infections (17.98%), fungal infections (14.13%), and alopecia areata (9.72%). Seborrheic dermatitis was prevalent in infants under 6 months, likely due to maternal androgen stimulation. Alopecia areata was the most common noncicatricial alopecia, though its prevalence was lower than in previous reports. The study highlights regional differences in disease prevalence and suggests the need for multicenter studies to improve understanding and management of these disorders. Limitations include its single-center, retrospective design, which may affect generalizability.
