TLDR Clitoria ternatea has potential health and skincare benefits but needs more testing for safe use.
Clitoria ternatea, also known as Sangu Poo, is a plant with a rich phytochemical profile, including terpenes, flavonoids, and alkaloids, which contribute to its diverse pharmacological activities. Traditionally used in Indian, Tamil, and Greco-Arab medicine, it exhibits antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, supporting heart health, liver protection, and potentially cancer-related activities. Its extracts may reduce free radicals and balance the immune system. Recently, it has gained attention in skincare for its potential to slow aging, protect against light damage, reduce pigmentation, and promote hair growth. Despite its promising applications, the lack of human trials and consistent quality control poses challenges, highlighting the need for improved testing and product design to fully realize its benefits.
