TLDR Clitoria ternatea has potential health and skincare benefits but needs more testing for safe use.
Clitoria ternatea, also known as Sangu Poo, is a plant from the pea family with a rich phytochemical profile, including terpenes, flavonoids, and alkaloids, which contribute to its diverse pharmacological activities. Traditionally used in Indian, Tamil, and Greco-Arab medicine, it exhibits antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, supporting heart health, liver protection, and potentially influencing cancer-related processes. Recent interest in its cosmetological applications highlights its potential to slow aging, protect skin from light damage, reduce pigmentation, and promote hair growth. Despite promising lab results, the lack of human trials and consistent quality control poses challenges, necessitating improved testing and product design to fully realize its benefits.
