BH03 Comorbidities in Patients with Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Associated Conditions

This systematic review and meta-analysis examined 65 studies to assess comorbidities associated with frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA), revealing significant associations with thyroid disease, lupus erythematous, vitiligo, and heart disease. The findings suggest that FFA may be a systemic disorder with a substantial burden of hormonal, autoimmune, cardiometabolic, and dermatological comorbidities. The study highlights the potential role of hormonal changes, particularly in postmenopausal women, in the onset or progression of FFA. The associations with thyroid disease and vitiligo indicate possible shared pathogenic pathways involving immune dysregulation, suggesting targeted screening for FFA patients. The study calls for comprehensive patient assessments and well-designed studies to better understand the systemic nature of FFA and its true associations.
