TLDR Alopecia Areata patients have low zinc and high copper levels.
A study involving 60 Alopecia Areata (AA) patients and 30 healthy controls found that AA patients had significantly lower serum zinc levels and higher copper levels compared to controls. The study, conducted at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in India, used atomic absorption spectrophotometry to measure these trace elements. Results showed an inverse correlation between zinc and copper levels, suggesting that an imbalance in these trace elements may contribute to the pathogenesis of AA. This finding highlights the potential role of zinc and copper assessment in understanding and managing AA.
