TLDR Skin rashes can help diagnose COVID-19 early.
This review examined the cutaneous manifestations associated with COVID-19, identifying five main types: maculopapular, urticarial, chilblain-like, vesicular, and petechiae/purpura lesions. Maculopapular lesions were the most common, seen in up to 70% of patients, while chilblain-like lesions were prevalent in children and young adults. The study of 375 COVID-19 patients found that 6% had livedoid eruptions, with a 10% mortality rate among these cases. The review highlighted the role of dermatologists in identifying these manifestations and emphasized the importance of recognizing skin lesions for early diagnosis. Despite extensive research, the pathogenetic mechanisms remained unclear, indicating a need for further studies.
