TLDR Traditional Chinese medicine may help relieve symptoms of Cronkhite-Canada syndrome.
Cronkhite-Canada syndrome (CCS) was a rare disease characterized by gastrointestinal polyposis and ectodermal changes, with symptoms such as alopecia and nail dystrophy. A case report of a 47-year-old male demonstrated that a combination of traditional Chinese medicine, proton pump inhibitors, and nutritional support significantly alleviated symptoms. The treatment targeted spleen Yang deficiency and fluid-dampness stagnation using Shipi Drink, which included components like Poria and Atractylodes known for immune-regulating properties. Despite the positive outcome, the specific mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine in treating CCS needed further investigation. The study underscored the rarity of CCS, its unclear pathogenesis, and the necessity for more research to develop standardized treatment strategies.
