Seeds from the Cucurbitaceae family, including watermelon, melon, and pumpkin, are rich in bioactive compounds and offer potential applications in the cosmetics industry. These seeds, often discarded as by-products, contain polyunsaturated fatty acids, proteins, carbohydrates, and phytochemicals, making them sustainable resources for cosmetics. They provide skin and hair benefits such as antioxidant activity, hydration, and management of conditions like hyperpigmentation, acne, and psoriasis, while also improving hair oil balance and reducing frizz. Challenges like environmental instability and low dermal permeability of seed oils are being addressed through nanoencapsulation technologies to enhance delivery and efficacy. This review highlights the potential of these seeds as innovative and sustainable cosmetic ingredients.
