TLDR Improving oral health may help hair regrowth in children with alopecia areata.
This case report discusses a five-year-old female patient with alopecia areata totalis, an autoimmune disorder causing hair loss, who also had extensive untreated dental caries and chronic oral infection. After undergoing comprehensive dental rehabilitation under general anesthesia to eliminate infectious foci and restore oral health, the patient experienced significant hair regrowth without dermatological treatment. This suggests a potential link between chronic oral infection and alopecia areata, emphasizing the importance of addressing oral health in managing pediatric autoimmune conditions.
