TLDR Oral Minoxidil is a practical alternative to Topical Minoxidil for hair loss, but treatment should be personalized.
This integrative review compares Oral and Topical Minoxidil for treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Both forms effectively improve hair density and thickness, but Oral Minoxidil, while associated with more hypertrichosis, offers better adherence and maintains a favorable cardiovascular safety profile at low doses. Topical Minoxidil provides superior cutaneous tolerability. The study concludes that Oral Minoxidil is a practical alternative but not a replacement for Topical Minoxidil, and treatment should be personalized based on individual tolerance, side effects, and adherence. Further research is needed to determine the optimal use of each formulation.
