TLDR Long-term healthy eating lowers testosterone and improves health in women with suspected PCOS.
This study involving 154 women with suspected PCOS found that long-term dietary changes, specifically reducing sweets, fatty red meat, and alcohol intake for over 6 months, significantly lowered total testosterone levels. Participants who made these dietary modifications had better metabolic and hormonal profiles compared to those who did not. Short-term dietary changes were associated with higher androgen levels, BMI, systolic blood pressure, and triglycerides. The study concludes that a healthy, balanced diet with specific goals is more effective for women with PCOS than general dietary advice, and maintaining these benefits requires ongoing motivation.
