TLDR DNMT1 may help treat hypospadias by improving cell function and preventing unwanted cell changes.
This study explores the role of DNMT1 in regulating SRD5A2 expression and its impact on mitochondrial homeostasis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in urothelial cells from hypospadias rats, with a sample size of 3. DNMT1 binds to the SRD5A2 promoter, affecting cell proliferation, migration, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression, particularly arresting at the G1/S phase. It enhances mitochondrial function and inhibits EMT, suggesting DNMT1-mediated methylation of SRD5A2 as a potential therapeutic target for hypospadias. Further research is needed to understand these gene interactions in hypospadias and other urogenital disorders.
