TLDR The new drug delivery system improves vitiligo treatment by enhancing melanocyte activity and viability.
The study developed a drug delivery system using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) immobilized on poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) nanofibers to enhance melanocyte stimulation for vitiligo treatment. Researchers compared electrospun and centrifugally spun scaffolds, finding that centrifugally spun scaffolds released nearly twice as many bioactive molecules and demonstrated superior platelet adhesion. This led to improved melanocyte metabolic activity and proliferation, with a concentration-dependent response. The study involved human platelet concentrates from four donors and suggested that platelet-functionalized scaffolds could improve melanocyte activity, offering a promising approach for vitiligo treatment.
