TLDR Dupilumab effectively reduces alopecia areata symptoms in children with atopic dermatitis.
This scoping review examines the use of dupilumab, a monoclonal antibody, for treating alopecia areata (AA) in pediatric patients with atopic dermatitis (AD). Involving 31 patients with an average age of 11.4 years, the study found that 77.4% experienced hair regrowth, with a significant mean reduction in SALT score of 42.6, indicating improved scalp hair coverage. Additionally, the severity of AD decreased significantly. While dupilumab shows potential effectiveness, some cases reported new or worsened AA, suggesting other inflammatory pathways might be involved. The review notes limitations such as small sample size and short follow-up, and emphasizes the need for further research, with a clinical trial (NCT05866562) underway to assess efficacy.
