TLDR Nanostructured lipid carriers can improve androgenic alopecia treatment by reducing dutasteride dosage and maintaining its presence in hair follicles longer.
The study investigates the use of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) for delivering dutasteride and gamma-oryzanol (GO) to treat androgenic alopecia (AGA). These NLCs, made from pumpkin seed oil and saw palmetto, target hair follicles to enhance drug accumulation and reduce systemic absorption and side effects. Conducted on C57BL/6 mice, the study found that NLCs effectively reduced the required daily dose of dutasteride and maintained drug presence in hair follicles even two weeks after stopping treatment. This suggests that NLCs could allow for less frequent application, potentially improving treatment efficiency for AGA.
