An Investigation of the Effects of Cationic Conditioning Systems on Hair Combability and Sensory Performance

    This study evaluated the effects of cationic surfactant-based conditioning systems on hair fibers, focusing on combability and sensory performance. The negatively charged surface of hair fibers after washing allows cationic agents to adsorb onto the hair, forming a low-friction film that reduces inter-fiber forces and improves combability. Formulations with cationic systems were compared to reference systems, standardized at 2% active matter concentration. Combing performance was measured using a texture analyzer, and sensory evaluations were conducted by trained panelists. Results showed that cationic systems significantly reduced friction and improved both wet and dry combability, with a strong correlation between sensory and instrumental measurements. These systems offer high-performance, sensorially optimized solutions for hair care formulations.
