TLDR The fibroin-based formulation strengthens and repairs chemically damaged hair.
The study evaluates a cosmetic active ingredient containing fibroin for treating and repairing chemically damaged hair in African-American and Caucasian hair types. Using Raman spectroscopy, the study found increased fibroin permeation in treated hair fibers. Mechanical testing showed that hair treated with 2.5% of the active ingredient had improved tensile strength, with African-American hair showing a 25.5% increase, and Caucasian hair showing increases of 10.2% and 8.3% for aqueous and leave-on treatments, respectively. SEM analysis indicated improved hair surface morphology and cuticle repair. Overall, the fibroin-based formulation enhances hair strength and repairs damage.
