Efficacy of Intralesional Vitamin D3 Injection in the Treatment of Alopecia Areata: A Comparative Study

This study compared the efficacy and safety of intralesional Vitamin D3 injections to intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (TAC) in 80 patients with patch-type alopecia areata. Over 12 weeks, both treatments showed gradual hair regrowth, with success rates of 75% for Vitamin D3 and 55% for TAC, though the difference was not statistically significant. Recurrence rates were similar, and adverse effects were minimal, with Vitamin D3 causing mild erythema/irritation and TAC causing localized pain and atrophy. The study concludes that Vitamin D3 is a comparably effective and potentially safer alternative to TAC, especially for patients at risk of corticosteroid-related side effects.
