Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety for the Combination Use of Oral and Topical Tranexamic Acid in the Treatment of Melasma at Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital

    TLDR Oral and topical tranexamic acid effectively and safely improve melasma.
    The study conducted at Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital evaluated the efficacy and safety of combining oral and topical tranexamic acid for treating melasma in 28 female patients. The results showed significant improvement in melasma, with 100% of patients experiencing over 25% improvement and 50% showing good improvement of 51-75% according to the PGA scale. The MASI index also showed significant improvement post-treatment (p<0.001). Patient satisfaction was high, with 57.14% very satisfied and 92.86% reporting no side effects. The study concludes that oral and topical tranexamic acid is an effective and safe treatment for melasma.
