TLDR A unique skin cell similar to hair bulb melanocytes was identified, with better preservation using permanganate fixation.
This study used electron microscopy to examine the human epidermis, identifying a distinct dendritic cell similar to the melanocyte of the hair bulb. These cells, which can contain melanin, have larger and more numerous mitochondria and a more complex endoplasmic reticulum compared to other epidermal cells. They lack tonofilaments and do not form intercellular bridges. The study suggests these cells are identical to the dopa-positive, clear cell of Masson. Additionally, it was found that permanganate fixation better preserves membranous structures in the epidermis than osmium tetroxide fixation.

A potential treatment for alopecia involving a protein that calms hair follicles has shown promise in rats, but skepticism remains about its applicability to humans. Many users express doubt about the timeline for effective hair loss treatments, comparing it to past unfulfilled promises.

community Forgotten Hair Loss Peptide by L'Oreal: KPV

      in Research/Science  5 upvotes 1 year ago
KPV, a peptide patented by L'Oreal, may promote hair growth and reduce hair loss by extending the anagen phase and has anti-inflammatory properties. It could be combined with treatments like minoxidil for enhanced effects.
