TLDR Stress, diet, and environment can worsen scalp seborrheic dermatitis.
This study analyzed 198 adult patients with scalp seborrheic dermatitis (SSD) to identify factors influencing disease severity. It found that male patients experienced higher severity of SSD compared to females (p = 0.006). No significant associations were observed between SSD severity and factors such as age, skin type, smoking, alcohol use, season of presentation, or systemic diseases. However, a significant link was found between SSD severity and the presence of onychomycosis (p = 0.001), suggesting shared underlying immunologic, microbial, and skin barrier dysfunctions between the two conditions.
