Fetal Fibroblast Transplantation via Ablative Fractional Laser Irradiation Reduces Scarring

    The study investigated a novel scar treatment method combining ablative CO2 fractional laser irradiation with fetal fibroblast transplantation in six mice. It found that the long-term sphere culture (LS) group showed the most significant reduction in scarring, with collagen fiber orientation, density, and maturity closest to normal skin. The LS group also had elastic fibers and a number of α-SMA-positive myofibroblasts similar to normal skin, unlike the control and other fibroblast groups. The study concluded that this combination treatment effectively reduced scarring, particularly with sphere-forming fetal fibroblasts, highlighting its potential as an effective treatment for new scars. Further research was needed to understand the increase in elastic fibers observed.
