    This study from 2006 evaluated the effectiveness of oral finasteride therapy in premenopausal women with female pattern hair loss. The study involved 37 women who were treated with finasteride and an oral contraceptive containing drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol for 12 months. The results showed that 62% of patients demonstrated some improvement of their hair loss, and 23 of the 37 patients were rated as improved using global photography. The study suggests that finasteride may be an effective treatment for FPHL, but further studies are needed to establish the optimal dosage and mode of administration.
