Formulation and evaluation of an SLS-free polyherbal anti-dandruff shampoo containing Sapindus mukorossi, Azadirachta indica, Acacia concinna, Aloe vera, and Phyllanthus emblica

Mediterranean Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
The study developed an SLS-free, plant-based anti-dandruff shampoo using five medicinal botanicals: Sapindus mukorossi, Azadirachta indica, Acacia concinna, Aloe vera, and Phyllanthus emblica. Three formulations were tested, with F2 showing optimal properties, including a viscosity of 2430 ± 18 cP, cleansing efficiency of 82.6%, and foam retention of 75.0%. It demonstrated antifungal effectiveness with a 17.0 ± 0.3 mm inhibition zone against Malassezia furfur. Stability tests confirmed no significant changes in the formulation over 30 days. The shampoo is a viable, biodegradable alternative to synthetic products.
