TLDR The herbal shampoo effectively treats dandruff and is a good alternative to synthetic options.
The study aimed to develop a polyherbal anti-dandruff shampoo using medicinal plants such as Azadirachta indica, Ocimum tenuiflorum, Eclipta prostrata, Phyllanthus emblica, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, and Sapindus mukorossi, known for their beneficial effects on hair and scalp health. The shampoo was evaluated for its physical parameters, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory activities. The aqueous extract of the formulation showed significant antioxidant activity, which may protect scalp tissues from oxidative stress and support healthy hair growth. It also demonstrated potential antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus and Streptococcus pyogens, as well as antifungal activity against Candida albicans, contributing to its anti-dandruff effect. The study concluded that polyherbal shampoos are effective and better alternatives to synthetic shampoos due to their natural antimicrobial properties.
