TLDR Combining fractional CO2 laser with type III collagen improves acne scar treatment.
This study investigated the synergistic effects of fractional CO2 laser (FCL) and recombinant humanized type III collagen (rhCol III) in treating atrophic acne scars in 18 patients. Patients treated with FCL and rhCol III showed significantly better outcomes, with lower ECCA and GSS scores and higher scar improvement rates compared to those treated with FCL and saline. The combination treatment was particularly effective for boxcar and icepick acne scars. In vitro experiments revealed that FCL combined with rhCol III upregulated type I and III collagens and activated the MAPK signaling pathway, contributing to enhanced collagen remodeling and scar reduction.
