TLDR Frontal fibrosing alopecia may be linked to genital Lichen sclerosus through an autoimmune process.
This study aimed to enhance the understanding of Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) by examining its epidemiology, clinical features, and comorbidities in a retrospective analysis of 119 Caucasian patients (111 female, 8 male) from 2003 to 2019. The study found that 16% of patients had cutaneous, mucosal, or nail localization of Lichen planus (LP), and 10.61% had concomitant genital Lichen sclerosus (LS), with 4.38% presenting both LS and LP alongside FFA. The findings suggested a potential autoimmune process linking LS and FFA, highlighting the need for further research to understand this association.
