TLDR The hydrogel speeds up diabetic wound healing by adapting to glucose levels and releasing insulin.
The study presents a glucose-activated hydrogel designed for the treatment of infected diabetic wounds. This hydrogel features self-switchable enzyme-like activity, allowing it to adapt to blood glucose fluctuations. It is composed of Au─MoS2─phenylboronic acid nanozyme and insulin-loaded nitroimidazole-modified sodium alginate microcapsules. The hydrogel releases insulin in response to high glucose levels, generating antibacterial reactive oxygen species and creating a hypoxia environment to aid healing. In normal glucose conditions, it inhibits insulin release and supplies oxygen. This approach results in a wound recovery rate approximately 3 times higher than commercial dressings, offering a promising solution for managing chronic diabetic wounds by regulating blood glucose and improving the wound microenvironment.
