Hair Medulla and Its Variations in Doshaja Prakruti: An Observational Study

    Savita Kanade, Yogesh Kutte
TLDR Hair medulla patterns vary by Prakruti type, affecting hair strength.
The study investigated the medullary patterns of hair in 180 healthy individuals aged 18–25, classified into six Dwandvaja Prakruti types, to explore potential associations. Results showed distinct variations, with the Kapha-Vata group having the highest proportion of continuous (33%) and solid medulla (20%), indicating stronger hair integrity. In contrast, the Vata-Pitta group exhibited a higher incidence of absent (47%) and fragmented medulla (23%), suggesting weaker hair structure. The findings suggest a link between Prakruti types and hair medulla patterns, which could inform Dosha-specific hair care and preventive strategies in Ayurvedic trichology.
