Possible Mechanisms Mediating Complete Regrowth of Hair Following Scalp Tattooing in Alopecia Universalis

    Jan Homolak
The document discussed a case of complete hair regrowth in a patient with alopecia universalis following scalp tattooing, which was previously unresponsive to treatments. Although causality could not be definitively established, the regrowth might have been triggered by the tattoo ink or the tattooing process itself. Possible mechanisms included the activation of hair follicles through wound healing processes, as tattooing involves skin trauma that could stimulate hair growth. Additionally, components of tattoo inks might have immunomodulatory and antioxidant properties that could promote hair growth by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, which are factors in alopecia.
