TLDR Trichoscopy can diagnose Netherton syndrome without pulling hairs.
Netherton syndrome, an autosomal recessive disorder, was characterized by ichthyosis, atopic manifestations, and hair shaft abnormalities such as trichorrhexis invaginata. The study presented a case of an 11-year-old female patient with Netherton syndrome, where hair and scalp videodermoscopy (trichoscopy) was utilized to identify typical bamboo hairs and hairs with golf tee type endings. Trichoscopy allowed for noninvasive examination of hair shafts at high magnification, eliminating the need to pull hairs for diagnosis. This method significantly improved the ability to diagnose Netherton syndrome by visualizing characteristic hair abnormalities.
