Internal Personal Resources in Patients With Different Types of Alopecia: The Role of Hardiness and Resilience in Mental Maladaptation

    TLDR Lower hardiness and resilience in mixed alopecia patients may predict more psychological distress.
    The study examines the role of hardiness and resilience in women with metabolic (n=45) and mixed (n=108) alopecia, finding that those with mixed alopecia have significantly lower scores in these areas. Specifically, hardiness and resilience scores were lower in mixed alopecia (21.98±3.54 and 17.05±7.60) compared to metabolic alopecia (26.47±5.05 and 25.36±6.48). A gradient relationship was observed, with decreased hardiness and resilience correlating with increased psychological maladaptation. The study concludes that these factors could predict the severity of psychological distress, advocating for resource-based assessments and interventions to enhance adaptive capacities in alopecia patients.
