TLDR Mental health issues affect adaptation in alopecia patients more than the cause of hair loss.
The study examined 153 women with diffuse alopecia to understand the psychosocial adaptation (PA) based on the genesis of alopecia and the severity of mental maladjustment. It found that psychosocial maladjustment (PSA) is significantly influenced by mental health and adaptation disorders, with the worst PA indicators in patients with clinically diagnosed adaptation disorders. The study highlighted that depressive and anxiety manifestations have a major impact on PA, more so than the genesis of alopecia. The findings suggest the need for multidisciplinary support programs and psychological screening in dermatological practice to improve care for patients with alopecia.
