TLDR More severe hair loss in alopecia areata greatly impacts patients and caregivers.
The study aimed to estimate health state utility values (HSUVs) for alopecia areata (AA) using time trade-off interviews with 120 participants from the UK general population. Vignettes describing health states based on the severity of hair loss were developed using data from patient-reported outcomes, literature reviews, and interviews with patients, clinical experts, and caregivers. The results showed that more extensive hair loss had a more severe impact on patients, with HSUVs ranging from 0.502 for the most severe state to 0.919 for the mildest. The caregiver HSUV was 0.882, indicating a significant impact of AA on both patients and caregivers.
