TLDR Hemp's compounds can be used in natural insecticides, cosmetics, and food supplements.
This review explores the diverse applications of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) phytochemicals in the agrochemical, cosmetic, and food industries. Hemp phytochemicals, including cannabinoids, terpenes, phenolics, phytosterols, and tocopherols, exhibit beneficial properties such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective effects. In cosmetics, cannabinoids like CBD and THC show promise for skin and hair health, with a study on 35 individuals with androgenetic alopecia demonstrating significant hair count increases after treatment with hemp oil formulations. In agrochemicals, hemp extracts have shown effectiveness as natural insecticides, offering a sustainable alternative to synthetic pesticides. In the food industry, hemp seeds are valued for their nutritional benefits, though regulatory challenges, particularly concerning CBD-infused foods, must be addressed. Overall, hemp phytochemicals offer diverse benefits, but quality control, cost-effective extraction methods, and safety studies are necessary for broader application.
