It is used in managing conditions such as wounds, inflammation, hypertension, diabetes, infections, alopecia, and gastric ulcers. The plant's primary bioactive compounds are flavonoids, including various quercetin and cyanidin derivatives, along with other constituents like cyclopeptide alkaloids and vitamins. These compounds exhibit a wide range of pharmacological activities, such as anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and hypoglycemic effects. Despite its extensive use, there are limited studies on its toxicity, with most extracts showing no toxic effects even at high doses. This review consolidates the phytochemical, pharmacological, and medicinal properties of Hibiscus rosa sinensis Linn.
