TLDR Elderly patients have more severe hidradenitis suppurativa and may need different treatments.
This study examines hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) in elderly patients (≥60 years) compared to adults (18-59 years) using data from 221 elderly and 438 adult patients. Results show that elderly patients have more severe HS, with higher median IHS4 scores and more cases in Hurley III stage. There is also a noted shift in the female-to-male ratio among the elderly, suggesting menopause may affect HS symptoms. The study emphasizes the need for tailored treatment strategies for elderly HS patients and calls for further research, though it is limited by its retrospective design and lack of longitudinal analysis.
