The Preparation of High Minoxidil Loaded Transfersomes and Its Gel for Effective Topical Treatment of Alopecia

    The study aimed to design a transfersomal formulation of minoxidil (MXD) with high drug content (DC) and entrapment efficiency (EE) to improve hair growth and reduce skin irritation for the treatment of alopecia. By using Tween 80 as an edge activator and the thin film hydration method, the researchers significantly improved the DC and EE of MXD transfersomes. The optimized transfersomes and their gel form had a spherical morphology, no aggregation, and a particle size of less than 100 nm. This formulation showed enhanced skin permeability, stability, and hair regeneration effects with minimal skin irritation.
