TLDR Long noncoding RNAs help regulate hair follicle density in rabbits.
This study investigated the molecular mechanisms regulating hair follicle density in Wan strain Angora rabbits, focusing on differences between high and low wool production groups. Histological analysis revealed higher hair follicle density in high wool production rabbits. RNA sequencing identified 50 differentially expressed long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and 38 genes between the groups. Gene ontology analysis showed significant enrichment in processes related to lipid metabolism and transport, apoptosis, and amino acid synthesis. Five lncRNAs were identified as potential regulators of hair follicle density, with three validated by q-PCR. The study concluded that lncRNA profiles enhanced the understanding of molecular mechanisms influencing hair follicle density.

community Journey against alopecia - Finasteride 3 month

in Progress Pictures  17 upvotes 4 years ago
A 26-year-old man from France started experiencing hair loss in September 2020 and began using finasteride in June 2021, reporting some improvement after three months without side effects. He plans to continue finasteride for a year before considering additional treatments like minoxidil or dermarolling.

community How true is the statement: dead follicles don't grow back?

      in Research/Science  110 upvotes 11 months ago
Hair follicles usually go dormant rather than die, and treatments like finasteride, minoxidil, and hormone therapy can sometimes reactivate them, though results vary. Complete regrowth is rare, especially in long-term bald areas, but some individuals see significant improvement with these treatments.

community Groundbreaking sugar gel might be a miracle hair loss solution for men and women

in Technology  127 upvotes 1 year ago
A sugar gel called 2-deoxy-D-ribose (2dDR) shows potential for promoting hair regrowth by increasing blood supply to hair follicles, similar to Minoxidil, but its effectiveness in humans is unproven. It may benefit those who don't tolerate Minoxidil, but it is not a replacement for treatments like Finasteride or RU58841.

community How does low level laser therapy?

in Chat  5 upvotes 10 months ago
Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is debated for hair regrowth, with some users suggesting it should be combined with treatments like minoxidil and finasteride for effectiveness. Many users express skepticism about LLLT's efficacy and cost, emphasizing the need for the correct wavelength and quality devices.

Creatine generally does not affect hair loss, but some report increased shedding due to higher DHT levels. Many manage hair loss with dutasteride, finasteride, and minoxidil.
